Some people experience a new culture via food. Others visit historical landmarks. Some take tours, some hike, others shop their way through new countries. But have you ever considered beer? Practically every region has a smattering of microbrews; small breweries that produce beer with local ingredients, unique flavors and more, well, personality. While every country has its own version of “Bud Light” (Stella Artois in England, Kingfisher in India), tasting the local ales, lagers, pilsners and hefs will get you that much closer to a culture (and maybe some of the regulars at the local bar).

MUNICH (GERMANY): There are strong rumours going around in Europe as well as in Asia that Campagnolo has been sold reports Bike Europe. From various sources this trade journal heard that the sale of the complete company already took place.Asked whether he could confirm or deny the sale, Campagnolo’s Marketing & Communication director Lorenzo Taxis said: “I am not going to give you an official answer on this, as this is not an official matter inside the company.”Sources indicate that a Japanese company should have bought Campagnolo and with that of course Shimano springs to mind.

When Catherine and I left Hallstatt, Austria we drove to Munich (In German - München), Germany the capital of the German state of Bavaria and Germany's third largest city. The pictures ENLARGE if you click on them. Catherine on Stachus is a large square in central Munich and named officially Karlsplatz in 1797 after the unpopular Karl Theodor, Elector of Bavaria. Munich natives seldom use that name, calling the square instead Stachus, after the pub "Beim Stachus", once owned by Eustachius Föderl, that was located there until construction work for Karlsplatz began.
